The 151 Hunt: Our Pokémon Challenge Begins

We're doing something to start our collection as a family in 2026. Something that combines our love of Pokémon, our love of collecting, and our love of family challenges. We're calling it The 151 Hunt, and we want you to join us.

What Is The 151 Hunt?

Simple: we're on a mission to collect one card of each original 151 Pokémon. That's Bulbasaur (#1) all the way through Mew (#151). Every single one.

The Rules:

- One card per Pokémon (any card, any set, any rarity)

- Must be a real, physical card (no digital cards)

- Can be purchased (maximum 3), traded, or pulled from packs

- Goal: Complete the collection by December 31, 2026

- Track our progress in real-time on our 151 Hunt Tracker

Why 151?

The original 151 Pokémon hold a special place in our hearts. They're the ones I (Dad) grew up with. The ones our kids are discovering for the first time. They're classic, iconic, and represent the foundation of everything Pokémon has become.

Plus, 151 is a perfect number for a year-long challenge. It's ambitious but achievable. It's specific enough to be meaningful but flexible enough to be fun.

How We're Tracking Progress

We've built a real-time tracker on our website that shows:

- Progress bar - See how many we've found (X/151)

- Visual grid - Every Pokémon with its status (found/not found)

- Card details - When we find a Pokémon, we'll show the card, rarity, and set

- Milestones - Celebrate when we hit 25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 Pokemon

You can check our progress anytime at /collections/151-hunt. We'll update it in real-time as we find new cards.

Our Strategy

We're taking a multi-pronged approach:

1. Pack Opening

- Opening packs from various sets (Prismatic Evolutions, Pokémon 151, Base Set, etc.)

- The thrill of the hunt is part of the fun

2. Trading

- Working with local collectors and online communities

- Trading duplicates and cards we don't need for ones we do

3. Strategic Purchasing

- Buying singles for Pokémon we're missing, but only a maximum of three

- Focusing on affordable options (we're not chasing PSA 10 Base Set Charizards)

4. Family Involvement

- Kids help track progress and update the website

- Making it a family project, not just a collection

What Makes This Special

This isn't just about collecting cards. It's about:

- Family bonding - Working together toward a shared goal

- Learning - Teaching kids about Pokémon, collecting, and goal-setting

- Community - Sharing our journey with other collectors

- Memories - Every card we find has a story behind it

The Timeline

Started: January 2026

Goal: December 31, 2026

Current Progress: 0/151 (just getting started!)

We're in this for the long haul. Some weeks, we'll find multiple Pokémon. Other weeks, we might not find any. That's okay—the journey is the destination.

What's Next?

Right now, we're at the very beginning. We've got our tracker set up, our goal defined, and our excitement levels at maximum. The real adventure starts now.

First up: We're planning our first big pack opening session. We'll be opening Prismatic Evolutions and Pokémon 151 sets, hoping to knock some Pokémon off our list. We'll document the whole thing and share the results here.

Then: We'll start working the trade circuit, connecting with other collectors, and hunting for specific Pokémon we need.

Throughout the year: Regular updates, milestone celebrations, and stories from the hunt.

The Bottom Line

The 151 Hunt is more than a collection challenge. It's a family adventure. It's a year-long journey. It's a way to combine our love of Pokémon with our love of making memories together.

We're excited to share this with you. Let's catch 'em all!
